TypingMaster is one of the most useful tools to use when you’re learning to type professionally. We used to be able to get by with slightly messy penmanship as long as we had hands that moved across a page like lightning. Most jobs have moved over to digital formats – and rightfully so. I don’t know about you, but I definitely cannot write as fast as I can type – without my writing looking like the carefree swirls and predominantly uniform lines that adorn most doctor’s letters.

If you have a job like mine, you’re likely to be even more motivated to learn to type faster. The human brain lets us think faster than we can act or speak. If you have a relatively high word per minute rating, you can type much closer to your thinking speed, which allows ideas to flow more fluidly and naturally. Here’s how you can improve your typing speed with TypingMaster.

How to use TypingMaster to improve your speed

  1. Get the TypingMaster app

Before you can learn to use TypingMaster, you’ll need to download the app. TypingMaster is only available for Windows OS devices, but this isn’t exactly an inconvenience. I don’t know of many people trying to increase their words per minute on their mobile devices.

All you need to do to get the app is hit the link in the introduction of this article and you’ll be whisked away to TypingMaster’s page on our website. Next, you’ll need to click on the download button and the app will save to your downloads folder.

  2. Install TypingMaster

Once you’ve opened the app file, you’ll be taken to the app’s installation wizard. You should now see a pop-up reading ‘Select install mode.’ If you have administrative privileges on your PC, go ahead and hit Install for all users. If not, select Install just for me

Once you’ve done this, you’ll need to go through a little bit of the usual administration that always comes with new software. This includes reading and accepting the End User License Agreement, and confirming the location you want the app to save to. Once you’ve gone through all the motions of installation, you can click Finish to complete the installation and get to using the app to improve your typing speed.

  3. Start your first lesson

The first thing you’ll need to do is enter your name and then hit Enter. Now you’ll be able to start your first lesson in typing faster with TypingMaster. The lessons are well organized and easy to follow.

Why try this typing platform?

Ultimately, TypingMaster is designed around the basic principles of what keyboards were created for. Your keyboard, whether you use one on your laptop or an external input device, was created to fit the layout of your fingers. Yes, there are more ergonomically sound keyboards for sale, but for the average user, these end up being little more than fun gimmicks and novelty items. This is why the shape, size, and layout of the modern keyboard haven’t changed all that much. The system currently in use works.

If you lay your hands flat on your keyboard, you can see all of the keys are within reach of your fingers – even if you have to extend your right hand’s little finger a little further to reach that second Enter key that doesn’t see much action. TypingMaster teaches you the most efficient way to type – without moving your hands excessively far like you have to do if you’re a two-finger typist.

I hail from the awe-inspiring beauty of South Africa. Born and raised in Pretoria, I've always had a deep interest in local history, particularly conflicts, architecture, and our country's rich past of being a plaything for European aristocracy. 'Tis an attempt at humor. My interest in history has since translated into hours at a time researching everything from the many reasons the Titanic sank (really, it's a wonder she ever left Belfast) to why Minecraft is such a feat of human technological accomplishment. I am an avid video gamer (Sims 4 definitely counts as video gaming, I checked) and particularly enjoy playing the part of a relatively benign overlord in Minecraft. I enjoy the diverse experiences gaming offers the player. Within the space of a few hours, a player can go from having a career as an interior decorator in Sims, to training as an archer under Niruin in Skyrim. I believe video games have so much more to teach humanity about community, kindness, and loyalty, and I enjoy the opportunity to bring concepts of the like into literary pieces.
